The Susan J. Murray Youth Scholarship Fund was established in 2003. The fund provides scholarships to the youth of Congregation Shalom to ensure all have access to Jewish opportunities and experiences. Susan Murray dedicated years of service to the youth of Congregation Shalom and this fund allows her commitment to continue in her honor.
“Legacy. What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.”
-Hamilton, The Musical

What do our applicants and recipients have to say about their experiences and opportunities made possible by the Susan Murray Youth Scholarship Fund? These teens are grateful for the monetary assistance given by scholarship dollars. It allows them to be active in their communities with other Jewish teens, both locally, nationally and even internationally. From local summer camp opportunities, to lobbying on Capitol Hill, to a semester in Israel and the International Maccabi Youth Games, the scholarship funds help make these experiences possible for teens in our community.

Susan Murray was a member of Congregation Shalom for many years before she passed away from cancer in 2003. During her time at Congregation Shalom, she served on the Board of Directors, Education Committee and the Youth Advisory Committee. Before her passing, the Board of Directors established the Susan Murray Youth Scholarship fund to recognize her years of service to Congregation Shalom and ensure that her work in helping the youth of the congregation would continue.
